Let the words of my mouth be a wellspring of life

Giving no place to the maker of strife

To speak good and to edify will shape the heart

Bad thoughts will lift off and be sure to depart

Speaking the truth with love and grace

And blessed will be those who seek His face.

How often have we said things that we regret?  I know for me, it has been many times!  All too often I have related to Paul when he said, “For that which I do I allow not, for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that I do.” (Rom.7:15,KJV).  My oh my!  The tongue surely is a powerful part of our body as James put it so clearly when he said, “ And the tongue is a fire, a world of inequity, so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and settetth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fir of hell.  But this is not the only thing the tongue is capable of doing . . .thankfully.  It can be used to bless. . .to say good things, to edify and minister grace to those who are listening.   When we become a new creation in Christ, we are considered righteous . .. right before God, because of the righteousness of Jesus.  We are no longer considered wicked . . .which essentially is crooked . . .we have been straightened out!  So, next time we open are mouths, we can remember that those who are righteous, produce righteous fruit, not wicked fruit and we can choose our words wisely.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good, to the use of edifying that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Eph. 4:29
