My heart is like a garden

Being tilled for flowers to grow

The weeds will try to choke them

More flowers will I sow

A mindful eye looks to see

The work that needs to be

May my garden tell the story

Of God’s amazing love and glory.

I find it interesting that God started man out in a garden to till. Being a gardener, I understand all too well what the weeds will do to a young and tender plant.  It’s so easy for weeds to choke that plant out in it’s tender time, but when it grows, it gets stronger, occupies more space and it’s not so easy to get rid of it.  Our heart is like a garden, and we can sow God’s word in our heart, but we need the good soil only He can provide. The more we sow, the more we have to combat the weeds that want to compromise our garden.  Satan surely wants to do all that he can to interrupt the work that God wants to do in our hearts.  We need to be on the offensive and the defensive.  Our part today in cultivating our spiritual walk is tilling the garden of our heart and it’s an ongoing process, it's working out our salvation with fear and trembling.  This is not the salvation that saves us but what we endure daily that we have to work out.  This takes active engagement daily and the result is sure to produce God’s amazing love and glory!

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Phil. 2:12
